Compared to religion and poetry, she did not care for them one bit. For some reason she was born clueless with numbers, however much creative she was. She was able to produce the most wondrous of arts, write beautiful poetry and she wasn't too unfamiliar with foreign languages, yet numbers always seemed to keep her back. That was why she had to spend extra of her time to study them, so she wouldn't hang behind. That would never do.
"If she was so smart, how come she hasn't gotten a scholarship yet? Or study awards of some kind? Offers to study abroad?"
"I'm sure she's doing all she can."
"It's not good enough!"
"Don't shout, dear .."
".. I-it just doesn't make any sense .. I made sure she got the best tutors, but apparently none of that did any good to her! Why didn't you give me another child?!"
"It doesn't work like that, dear. Sometimes there comes a useless child, like Nagisa. There's nothing we can do but make sure she finishes school, so she can move out."
"That's over a year! I'm already this frustrated with her -"
"Calm down, dear. She spends most of her time at school, ever since she became the student council president .."
"Like that's going to impress me. Think again, little brat."
"Now now, let's not dwell on the negative. What about we start on getting you that third child .."
The book she was currently reading kept on about different formulas in which she would probably end blowing up if she ever tried mixing them. Nagisa sighed and sat back, letting her head drop backwards so she looked up at the ceiling. It wasn't hard for her to tell when to stay clear out of the house, and most times she ended up at the library, or the student council room doing student council work. She had already worked through her other homework and was now struggling with chemistry. Luckily for her it didn't call for a vial of death, or she would definitely get the lower score. Usually mixing things together was fun, like cooking, but when there had to be such procedure and necessity to it, she lacked the proper enthusiasm. She was more of the creative kind, capable of producing a perfectly painted still-life. It was no wonder her best friend always asked her for help.
The fact that not only did her parents want her out of the house at the soonest possible moment, but they were already at making her replacement, unsettled her. She felt nervous, kind of, as if they would kick her out as soon as her mother got a swell on her stomach. What good parents she had. Well, she was eighteen. More than capable to take care of herself if the need came. Although what would she do when that time came? She needed a future. Preferably one that kept her out of the streets, because she would never know how to handle that. She was far from street smart, and she only ever wanted to stay with her social class, or even move up. Perhaps she could find herself a nice, wealthy man to marry when the time came. But then, that wasn't really something she would do, or even wanted for that matter.
No, this was why she had been studying so hard. Not only to try and please her parents, but she had always known that they would betray her someday. They were nothing like the rest of her family, who were all very family-oriented. Her uncle kept asking her if she was doing okay and telling her to come visit any time she liked, but she had answered every time that things were great as always and she couldn't afford to take her mind off of her studies. He had agreed to that, a little pout on his mouth however which Nagisa had laughed at.
A noise came from behind and she instinctively turned her head to look. One of the librarians stood over someone, scolding them for knocking down some books from one of the shelves, though so quiet she couldn't even hear her speak. Nagisa closed her book and stood up, walking over to the scene of the crime. With a gentle smile, she thanked the librarian for her eagerness to keep the order in the library and told her she would talk to the girl and ushered her to get back to her work. With the librarian finally walked away, she turned to the culprit, still smiling. "Better to know what you're doing when you're in here, ne? Those old babas will never hesitate to give you detention." Turning her back towards the girl, she gracefully placed the book in her hands in the shelf in front of her and sighed. "These days the students just don't know how to carry themselves, do they .." she murmured quietly to herself. [/style] |

Through utter hard work and determination, not only did she achieve near perfect grades, she managed to keep up with her studies of the magical nature. Nowadays, the tension, the expectations slowly wore off as it gradually became a given for the seventeen year old witch to do well and to not to let the family down. Sayuri took all of this with a pinch of salt; the peace she had be working for seemed to be in sight, yet she doubted her family would ever really accept anything less than slaving over schoolwork and other duties in other to make themselves look good. Gone was the time where Sayuri would feel bitter or anger toward this view; nowadays, she didn't care less. From experience, thinking too hard about her situation would create no positive outcome.
As far as she could recall, all her other duties for the Student Council that needed her attention was all done and filed. (Of course, Sayuri checked, double checked, and triple checked before even attempting to leave their club room.) Sayuri didn't feel right leaving any work unfinished, but seeing as she had some spare time, and as the seventeen year old was both a responsible and mature young lady, Sayuri thought it would be a good idea to give the school's grand library a visit in order to do some more studying to help manage her grades. Although if Sayuri tried, she could probably get even better grades, but that would mean it would take more effort to keep up and Sayuri treasured her scarce free time.
Admittedly, the high school junior felt a little... light headed when she begun to look around the shelves for relevant study material. Before she even registered what she was doing, a shelf of books managed to empty themselves onto the floor. Sayuri stopped in confusion, eyes wide.... no, no, she wouldn't be as careless to actually knock it down physically, and Sayuri knew that she didn't cast any spell... or did she.... oh god. This was no time to be going crazy! In fact, she was so wrapped up with herself none of the librarian's scolding actually computed into her brain.
Sayuri tiled her head, a confused expression worn on her face. What was the president saying? Did she not... recognise her...?
"I caught that, Pres! I'm hurt." Sayuri spoke uncharacteristically, a small pout on her lips that she quickly turned into an apathetic expression. Damn, that was so embarrassing, raising her voice like that, in a library of all places too!
"I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me." Sayuri explained, quickly, scared that somehow the explanation wouldn't manage to come out properly thanks to her fucked up brain. In actual fact, this was not the first time something like this had happened to the girl. Unexplainable things where she suddenly just... lost control of herself. It scared her, but she knew, this fear would always just fade away in the end. It always did. It had to.
"....You seem troubled, pres. Is there anything wrong? I can always lend an ear, if you wish." Sayuri offered politely. Being fairly distant with the Student Council President meant that she would treat her with Sayuri's general distant politeness. The President was a nice person, she gathered, but Sayuri wasn't entirely... comfortable with her.[/style] | [atrb=vAlign,top][atrb=style, width: 140px; padding: 5px; background-color: #fff;][style=font-family: arial; color: #494949; font-size: 15px; letter-spacing: -2px; text-align: left; border-bottom: 2px solid #494949; font-weight: bold;]TAGS[/style] [style=font-family: tahoma; font-size: 10px; color: #494949; text-align: justify; margin-left: 10px;]nagisa & open.[/style] [style=font-family: arial; color: #494949; font-size: 15px; letter-spacing: -2px; text-align: left; border-bottom: 2px solid #494949; font-weight: bold;]WORDS[/style] [style=font-family: tahoma; font-size: 10px; color: #494949; text-align: justify; margin-left: 10px;]595[/style] [style=font-family: arial; color: #494949; font-size: 15px; letter-spacing: -2px; text-align: left; border-bottom: 2px solid #494949; font-weight: bold;]NOTES[/style] [style=font-family: tahoma; font-size: 10px; color: #494949; text-align: justify; margin-left: 10px;]hope you don't mind me joining! and uh yeah. i tried playing her depersonalisation disorder. yeah idk....[/style] |

Was the future of St. Valentine's going down the gutter? Nagisa shook her head, placing the book she had been reading in the shelf above her and turning to look at the student.
"Are? Is that you, Fujioka-san?" she said, blinking surprisingly. She hadn't really gotten a good look on who had caused the ruckus, with her eyes pretty much closed before and not being able to hear the girl speak.
"How did you manage to tear all those books down by yourself? Nevermind the noise and commotion, it just doesn't look like you could have done that all by yourself .. Though I suppose none of that is of my concern."
Nagisa shook her head again, touching her forehead. She was feeling a faint headache coming on. Sighing, she dropped her hand and looked at Sayuri, the secretary of the student council.
"It doesn't matter," she smiled gently, waving the subject away, "are you here to study?"
The headache and the fact that she was practically stuck at the library and the student council room most of the time was getting to her. The stress from always trying to achieve a perfect score and keeping her parents comfortably pleased taking it's toll on her. She sighed again and walked over to the opposite bookshelf, picking out a book, seemingly random.
"I was just getting done with the math homework and I only have history left, but if you would like me to stay behind to join you for a study session, I'm available to do so."
Not that she would know where to go if the girl rejected her offer. Perhaps she would try texting one of her friends to see if they were home. Perhaps she would even go grocery shopping, seeing as that always calmed her, and it would certainly help on her mood, not to mention lowering her stress levels.
Without giving too much attention to the secretary, Nagisa took a step to the side, picking out another book. She opened it to find the contents and realised it did not contain the information she needed and therefor put it back in it's place.
She shrugged and stood for a moment, trying to figure out what book she would need, and then looked back at Sayuri as if she had remembered something.
"Ah, now that I have you here, Fujioka-san. Did you finish the inventory check of the council room? I'm afraid we're a little short on supplies, but I need to know exactly what before I write an order .."
The brunette turned away from her company and found the book she was looking for. Now with the two books in hand and ready to finish her homework for the next couple of weeks, she waved at Sayuri, ushering her to follow her.
"I've got a table over there," she pointed, "but some pranksters from Hyaku tend to sneak in here and steal whatever they can get their hands on. Can you imagine what kind of boys they keep over there?"
Nagisa shook her head; it was starting to look like a habit of hers.

That was for only the duration of several second though, because the Hanazaki girl immediately greeted her once she realised who she was speaking to. That was good, Sayuri supposed, but what was not good was that she still didn't feel she had full control over herself and her actions. The seventeen year old felt like she was watching afar as the situation progressed without including herself in it. If you'd ask her to describe the feeling, it would feel like she was have an 'out of body' experience. Sayuri pressed her lips together, a shot of fear suddenly making itself apparent. She hated this feeling.
"Ehhh, uhhh...." It was completely unlike the usual Sayuri to be unsure of her answers like this. So embarrassing! "Well..." Just as she was about to try and explain herself, it seemed as if the President dismissed the notion herself! Thank goodness for that. Sayuri didn't want to admit she was using magic in such a troublesome manner, and she was afraid of blurting out stupid answers once the older girl asked her why.
"W-Well, your well-being certainly does matter, Pres! You can't neglect yourself like that - uh... I mean... yes, I did... come to study." Sayuri inwardly cringed. She sounded like one of those idiotic, nervous of the world first years speaking to an admirable senpai. Except minus the cuteness. Sayuri doubted there was any kind of cuteness in her speech. In fact, she just wanted to get through it all - interacting with Hanazaki - without too much trouble. Sayuri genuinely liked the girl, she was proper and she was studious, and if she was behaving like this toward someone else, say... Akihara or Tanemura, she'd want to dig a hole and bury herself in then and there.
"I do think you should take it easy though, senpai. Work has been strenuous, right? It must be hard. Please don't overwork yourself." Oh, blabbering on, are we? Sayuri grumbled, but obviously inaudible.
"I was just getting done with the math homework and I only have history left, but if you would like me to stay behind to join you for a study session, I'm available to do so."
"O-Oh really, senpai? But that's a geography textbook -" Sayuri stated, looking at the book with confusion. That was right, she was most certainly losing it. It was obvious that the President was overworked and extremely stressed, but what could Sayuri do, really? Magic had its limitations and she didn't want to use magic on her friend like that, it was not fair, it was not natural.
"It does sound like you need a weekend off. How about a trip to the hot springs? Just be you and me. My treat." What the hell was she saying? Inviting a person she hardly knew in such an informal, rude manner... but admittedly Sayuri was growing worried for the girl. Perhaps it would be a good idea... damn, when was she allowing her 'other side' take the ropes?
"But uh, for now... sure. I don't mind, unless you have any previous obligations." Right, that sounded like herself, at least. Damn, she was getting all tense about this. It's fine, Sayuri thought, the older girl seemed lost in thought as she was picking up another book, only to put it back down again. When the older girl did look back at her though, Sayuri titled her head, knowing that she was wanted.
"Inventory check... Well, I've done it, I guess. That was before the filing though, so I had it all written down on a sheet. I'm sure that can wait though, we're not short on that much so we don't have much to worry about, I guess. I didn't have a lot on that list, if I remember correctly, but I do need that list to tell you. I can't really remember the full list, hahaha." Sayuri shrugged, a nonchalant expression appearing on her face.
The platinum blonde followed the brunette to her table, despite not having any study materials with her. Well... she only came here to do some revision and some studying the points that were going to be covered during her next lessons. It was a good habit of hers to keep, because that meant she understood the subject topics better compared to simply sitting through class.
"Ah." Her expression darkened. She had always disliked the Hyaku boys with a passion. Although she generally overlooked Jiro although she knew he was a troublemaker, the seventeen year old witch was almost certain that that school was made of terrible troublemakers. Why must boys be such... messy creatures? Sayuri winced just thinking about the dirty beasts.
"They're certainly horrid, without a doubt. To break in here and steal? I know they don't have nearly as much materials as we have the pleasure of having here, but god, the nerve!" Sayuri huffed, resting her chin in her hand. It was an unusual stance for her, who was so used to sitting upright with fingers leafing through a book.
"I cannot believe we have to go through the utter displeasure of having them next door to us. It's horrible!" She complained, rolling her eyes in the process. It was like she could tell the blonde all her darkest, deepest family secrets and yet not regretting it after. It was a weird feeling, because the Fujioka she knew was far from accommodating. Or perhaps that had changed somehow? But from what, she had no clue. For now she would treat the girl like any other, with courtesy and kindness.
Nagisa sat down at the table where she previously been sitting, picking up her pencil. Her eyes studied it for a while, listening to her company. What was she saying? Oh, the Hyaku boys. Yes.
"The boys are certainly far from disciplined. How is it the headmaster keeps making these mistakes? Does he even know his students behave like this? And it's not even everyone, some of the boys keep a nice distance from us, and some act quite proper toward us."
Nagisa feared the day they might interjoin with each other, making their school mixed. She shook her head, now a bad habit, though she made a mental not to try and refrain from it. Her headache only worsened. Perhaps it was even time to finish up the homework too, because none of it made it any easier on her. And she was far ahead, half a day's worth of studying wouldn't keep her behind.
She looked to the blonde girl next to her, smiling gently.
"I would take you up on that weekend offer, though, if it wasn't for the load of council work we have .. are you trying to flirt with me, Fujioka-san?"
Nagisa laughed it off, diverting her eyes to the textbook in front of her. Sayui was right earlier, how come she was so distressed as to pick up the wrong book? She only feared how it had made her look, weak and unstable. Not what she aspired to be at all.
Her presidential duties kept her busy most of the time, and her proper and polite attitude was of second nature to her. As long as she kept occupied, she would not stray far from the image she strived to be.
"What are you studying anyway? Since you're here .." Her eyes noticed the girl kept no books with her. "Ne, you don't have any study material. Should you like me to help you find something? I'm quite versed in the library schematics." Although her earlier encounter with some faulty literature said otherwise-
"Ah, but if you'd like to find it yourself," since she knew the secretary had spent a lot of time in there as well, "I would not keep you."
She smiled, opening her text- and notebook with the pencil in hand.
"I'll be right here."
Whether or not the blonde girl headed back to the many rows and aisles of books, Nagisa turned her gaze to the text in front of her and began reading, scribbling down certain words and sentences along the way. Though she did this almost automatically, her mind raced off elsewhere.
She noted the sound of a couple of students coming down the nearest staircase from the second floor, chatting quietly. At least they had the courtesy to keep it down, Nagisa thought, turning the page.
Another student came down afterward with a phone in her hand, laughing seemingly of a text she had gotten. Nagisa shot her a frown, putting her finger in front of her mouth to signal for her to be quiet. The student cringed and ran off. Apparently the student council president was far more off-putting than she liked at times. Oh well.
She turned another page, browsing the contents and a time table from the 16th century. "The battle of Sekigahara". The beginning of the Edo period, or the Tokugawa period some people called it. The shoguns back then didn't really interest her, but she knew the Ichihara derived from some of them, though probably not the Tokugawa, even though they only ruled till 1868. And that fact intrigued her, that the line of a family could run as far back as the Edo period.
A small smiled formed on her lips and she didn't even notice if Sayuri was back or not, until she felt a shake on her shoulder. Had she been that focused? Nagisa shook her head out of her daze and looked to the person who had brought her back to reality.
"I'm sorry. I was completely lost in the Edo period."
