[bg=#ececec][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=align,center,true][atrb=width,425,true] hinogawa izumi is a jinushigami, which in literal terms means 'land god'. he was a white fox thousands of years ago who - after losing a bet with kami-sama - was made to take charge of the peace of midori. upon his 'rebirth', izumi asked kami-sama for a human body in order to roam about the city freely and do whatever pleases him. as a land god, izumi's job is to protect the city from... basically demons (ironically), monsters, and anything and everything that could potentially harm the human race. even if he overlooks his duties most of the time and prefers to toy with the mortals rather than actually keeping them safe. all land gods have a shrine. however, instead of the south, izumi's shrine happens to be in the west district and takes the form of a hotel where customers are his shrine visitors and payments are money offerings. irresponsible as he is, izumi usually dumps his daytime chores on his familiar - a goldfish demon (who lives in the aquarium of the hotel lobby) named koi - so he can go and mess with the humans around town. which he claims to be his way of 'patrolling'.

[bg=#ececec][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=align,center,true][atrb=width,425,true] ✶ almost like tinkerbell from peter pan, izumi draws his powers from the faith and beliefs of the shinto followers; without them, he loses his godly abilities and could easily get beaten by a mortal. in fact, izumi's human body is quite physically weak. ... but thank goodness this is japan and is filled with said followers. maybe that's one of the reasons why - aside from the fact that he's supposed to be the protector of the land - izumi doesn't actually like to travel too much. ✶ izumi is capable of communicating with everything in nature (like snow white) and can sometimes be seen talking to animals or plants. he can also hear the prayers of shrine visitors. but because his 'temple' looks nothing like a temple, most visitors are unaware that they were supposed to be praying to him so instead, izumi usually hears the prayers directed to other gods... which he interferes with every now and then out of boredom. ✶ izumi writes commands down on white talismans (ofuda) that he carries around with him and then sticks them onto inanimate objects in order to make them do his biddings. this draws energy from his body and the more powerful the spell, the sleepier he becomes. ✶ though he's registered as a student of hyaku, izumi cares little to nothing for school and constantly plays hooky, resulting in his failing grades that he doesn't actually plan on improving anytime soon.
