Kanda and her family moved back to Japan when she was seven and moved from place to place within the country ever since. Although Kanda is friendly and never went without friends, she always did have an awkward time understanding other people and was often bullied for her bizarre social skills and ethnic background. When Kanda was ten, her mother divorced her father and went back to Thailand. Kanda became distant from others after the divorce, and rather than dealing with people picked up the hobby of taking care of stray animals wherever she moved to. She also started fighting at school, usually snapping over the tiniest of insults towards her. She soon gained a reputation of being strong and someone to stay away from. In her last year of middle school she joined a group of girl delinquents, known as the Big Cats, and stayed with them until she moved to yet another town. There she met her match and her first love, a half-American and half-Japanese exchange student named Alex. Alex had a calming effect on Kanda that no one and nothing else had. However, they both knew their time together was always meant to be short. When Alex left for the States he gave Kanda the hat he always wore. Kanda has now moved to Midori and is the latest transfer student to St. Valentine’s. She is trying to live her life far more quietly and less violently than before. But in a town like Midori, that may not last for long.

She usually comments on someone’s scent, and will sometimes growl or hiss like an animal when agitated or provoked. This behavior has earned her the moniker of ‘freak’ on more than one occasion. * Kanda is usually very quiet, and prefers to communicate through pointing, grunting, nodding, and any other form of communication that does not require saying many words. However, when she does speak, she is brutally honest and to the point. * The key to her strength and fighting style is not some special martial arts technique or from training, but rather her pure unadulterated rage and instinct. She goes all out in a fight and doesn’t care about the harm coming to her, just so long as she gets to sink her teeth – sometimes literally – into her opponent. * Kanda got the nickname ‘Tigress’ back in her Big Cats days due to a scar on her right arm that looks like three stripes. In truth this is from a delinquent she got into a fight with in middle school who carried a clawed weapon. She intentionally tries to hide the scar because there are many rumors, the majority of them exaggerated for gossip’s sake, floating around about the delinquent known as Tigress. * Yeah… the hat? She almost never takes that off her head. The hat keeps her calm and – as she puts it – ‘declaws’ her. Without the hat she is a bundle of pure rage just itching to unleash itself on someone or something.
