Himawari couldn't have asked for a better day to peruse the shopping arcade area. The sky was clear for as far as she could see and the sun was beating down -- perhaps too harshly, in the opinion of others. The air was also thick with moisture, as humid as humid could be. Again, to the other haggard-looking folks walking the town, these conditions were miserable. It was all the more reason for them to hurriedly do more shopping, to enter buildings with the sweet, sweet offer of air conditioning. Indeed, everywhere that Himawari happened to glance, people seemed to either be complaining of the heat, scurrying into a store, or chugging down some pocari sweat (or similar bottled drink).
But for Himawari, there was no need for such things. The sun was enough of a drink for her! Well, that was a little facetious. Of course she needed water--probably more than the average person, in fact. But the humidity helped. There were plenty of other women around the area with their arms covered in long, black gloves, or perhaps carrying parasols to avoid the sun. Her parents encouraged her to play along with this behavior, since her skin was so pale, but Himawari couldn't help soaking in as much of the bright stuff as she possibly could. Her parents weren't concerned that she might burn or tan her skin without wanting to. In fact, they were worried that it didn't happen at all. After observing her behavior for so long, there had been a couple of people close to her or the family intrusive enough to wonder why and how she had such fair skin when she spent so much time in the sunlight. The phrase, "I guess I'm just lucky!" had been uttered more than once by her when approached with the accusation. She also made sure to carry around a bottle of high-SPF sunscreen, about half-empty. She never used it, of course. It just helped to add to the illusion.
"Wha--? No, Mai-chan, listen--" With her cell phone in one hand (jangling lightly with the several charms hanging from it) and her dog's leash in the other, Himawari was more than content with the dog days' heat. It would seem that she was caught up in yet another bout of infamous teenage drama. She might claim that it was just another annoying thing to deal with, being a high school student and all. But, honestly, she soaked up the gossip almost as readily as she did the bright weather. It was something of a hobby to her. "He was still dating Aiko-san when--M-Mochi!"
"Mochi...? What, are you hungry?"
"Later!" Himawari cut off her call suddenly, stuffing her phone into her pocket. "Mochi!" Her dog, a chubby, white akita inu named Mochi, had just taken it upon himself to run off in the direction of something that must have interested him. Himawari couldn't guess what it might have been; but, whatever the case, he was already quite far down the street and around a corner.
Himawari dashed after him as quickly as she could manage, but she wasn't much of a runner; with her work ethic toward physical exertion, it wasn't long before she was tuckered out with that. He was far out of sight by the time she reached the corner at which she saw him turn. Frantically, Himawari ran a few more feet forward, glancing about. She finally grabbed the shoulders of someone nearby, as if to keep them from running off as suddenly as Mochi had. "Hey!" Her face was crazed with worry and she spoke between panting breaths. "Have...have...have you seen...Mochi around here?" In her frenzied state, it didn't occur to her immediately that, to others, Mochi was not a dog, but a squishy dessert.[/style] |

Well, not that the day of the week made much of a difference to a god who was - in reality - an eternal being... especially not when said god had an attitude like the jinushigami here.
By any chance, visiting the north was what Izumi had decided to put down on his schedule for the day, just to see what the people were up to when he wasn't looking. Most likely some sort of silly property damage shenanigan. But hey, these foolish mortals were certainly free to do whatever they wanted as long as none of them killed a daisy or a bee! Izumi for one was all for seeing these lower lifeforms suffer from the wrongdoings of their own kind. Chaos and disorder over trivial matters were more than entertaining, to say the least.
They could destroy each other, for all he cared; he was only in charge of keeping them safe from anything in the supernatural realm.
Seconds and minutes ticked by, and after he had taken his time with the so-called 'patrolling' of the more secluded areas of the north, the land god soon came upon - and found himself attracted to - the supposed 'outdoors mall' of the area.
The Kansaibashi Shopping Arcade. Always so full of live and energy. And most important of all, it was right at the centre of patches of green - much unlike the west where bustling crowds were constantly in a hurry to head to their next destination. It was almost like the contrast between the city of Tokyo and the island of Okinawa.
But at the same time - even despite his preference for nature - Izumi still could not bring himself to find the north a more interesting place to be. Though they did have the military base here and Izumi's own school - one that he didn't exactly attend regularly - was located here as well, there was just something - something - about the area that felt almost... empty.
It was too disciplined.
Why, he had only been here for a little under half an hour and already he was ready to head back to the west.
Or maybe it was just because he was easily-bored. Very easily-bored. And to think that he was actually wondering how much more money it might bring him if he built another shrine hotel of his own here-
Just then, a sudden noise from somewhere far away caused him to lose his train of thought and sure enough, a small, white fluffball soon flashed into his field of vision. Izumi arched a brow as the shiba inu came running towards his direction. But instead of moving away, the land god merely stood there, waiting until the last second to sidestep and block the canine's path on whatever it was meaning to run towards.
Izumi smiled, crouching down and gently grabbing the dog by its jaw, "Na," he asked, fingers moving up to the canine's ears and scratching behind its head. He sniffed a little, quickly detecting that there was scent to the shiba inu that didn't exactly belong to a dog, "Either you've been around too many humans today, or you're actually owned by someone. Think either assumption's accurate?" he asked quietly, sneaking out a slip of white talisman and scribbling something down before sticking it atop the dog's furry head. "We shall see then, won't we?"
A smirk now upon his features, Izumi watched as the canine - under the command written on the talisman - dashed off into a nearby alleyway. "Oops." He rose to his feet, pocketed his pen, and waited.
A few seconds passed and blue-haired girl made her appearance. Rather quickly, Izumi found himself grabbed by the shoulders when she spotted and ran towards him. "Mochi?" he questioned, "A little strange to be consuming something of that nature right now, don't you think?" he asked, though as he thought over the way the girl phrased her broken sentence, Izumi vaguely understood that she was not talking about anything along the lines of a certain dessert. And thinking back, that dog just now was white, just like a 'mochi,' wasn't it?
Nevertheless, Izumi said nothing about his suspicions and instead of peeling the girl's hands off of his shoulders, he merely slid his own into the pockets of his pants, "I'm almost certain that they have a shop somewhere around here that carries what you're looking for. Is it an urgent need? They usually have a long lineup from what I know," he said, smiling rather nonchalantly at the girl, "Perhaps you might need a hand, hn?"
Oh, Izumi was one who was always thrilled to help, alright.

Maybe it was just that the heat was finally getting to her. It certainly felt that way. As if all of the sunlight she'd gathered throughout the day hit her at once, her whole body suddenly felt very hot and her head was spinning. Each breath was coming out in a bit of a huff, too--but all of these things could be easily attributed to the over-exertion (by her own standards) she'd just experienced from running so hard (by her own standards). Still, it didn't help that Himawari couldn't make heads or tails of what this young stranger was saying. It only served to make her feel all the more disoriented.
Himawari was just trying to find her lost dog, and this young man was saying something about consumption. Of course it was no time to be either eating or shopping. "B--wha...?" It wasn't the most eloquent of her, but it was the only response that she was able to formulate in her current state of mind. Himawari glanced about herself stupidly, as if trying to find this shop that he spoke of, but she wasn't putting two and two together. There was a shop selling her dog, and he was in high demand? Why would any of those cruel people want to buy her Mochi.
"...Oh! Oh, oh!" After what seemed like ages in her head, but what was really only a few seconds, Himawari released her grip on the stranger and stood straight up. Somehow, it was less than instantaneous for her to realize that she'd only pointed out that she had a desire for Mochi, not describing what that actually meant. Somehow, it hadn't occurred to her that others would not immediately pick up on the fact that Mochi was a dog and not a squishy dessert. Somehow. Go figure.
"No, no, Mochi is my dog!" She'd wasted enough precious time with her nonsense shenanigans. "He's a white shiba. He's kinda small, but he's also pretty fat--" Himawari let out an exasperated sigh, lowering her shoulders. "I'm just so worried! He's so spoiled, he won't last on his own." No one ever said taht Himawari didn't have a flair for the dramatic. Here they were, separated for only a few moments, and she was already acting as though her dear dog was in some sort of Homeward Bound situation. Though if he came back with a cat or something, she wouldn't particularly mind. She was a fan of pets.
What distance Himawari might have put between herself and this stranger before, she now closed once more, eyes twinkling. "Would you help me? Would you really?" She couldn't have felt more grateful. If her heart had sunken before, it was suddenly rising once more. The kindness of strangers could do that to a young lady. Unfortunately, the fact of the matter was that Himawari had absolutely no idea where or how to look for her poor dog. She couldn't get inside the thoughts of a dog's brain. Where was he supposed to have gone? "But...I mean, I don't even--M-MOCHI!" She cried out his name once more, earning a few startled looks from passersby, hoping that he would return to her call this time. However, this was not the case. Himawari was veritably stumped. "Do you have any--oh, God, I'm a dunce. I'm Chabata Himawari, by the way, yeesh--okay! But yeah, for real, any ideas?" Cohesive thinking was not on her list of priorities--not when her dog was lost![/style] |

Izumi asked, tilting his head to one side ever so slightly when the girl went on to dramatically show how much worry she held for her lost canine, "So you're very worried about him, are you?" a light comment told through an almost airy tone. "You don't say."
A sudden cry of the dog's name once more caused one silver brow to arch. The land god gave a mere nod as the left corner of his mouth curled upward, "I don't see why I shouldn't help, seeing as the young lady's in obvious despair," even if only for the sheer entertainment he might get from her nervousness and distress. "Hinogawa Izumi." he returned simply after the blue-haired female decided to introduce herself at last.
Blinking, Izumi pulled himself away from Himawari, having yet to do so even after she had released him earlier. With that, he turned around and began to walk down the direction Himawari had been heading earlier, "An idea on what? His whereabouts, or how to relocate him?" tone as nonchalant as earlier, Izumi smiled, glancing to Himawari briefly all the while still walking, "Clearly, I am no animal tracking device. But what might be something your little one has an interest in, in terms of - perhaps - food?"
As if that wasn't an obvious enough solution. But then again, was it going to be as simple as that? Not necessarily. At least not when the command written down on the talisman was actually along the lines of something such as, 'stay as far away from me as possible;' in other words, so long as he was to remain physically near the young girl who was currently in his company...
The wry smile seemed to have broadened, or even darkened slightly as Izumi's gaze flickered to a nearby store, "If I recall correctly, most canines seem to be quite taken with meat and bones, no?" he spared Himawari one brief glance, "Unless yours differs from the norm of course."
Giving a light shrug of his shoulders, Izumi gestured to the store entrance, "An option between purchasing something to capture your dog's attention - which may or may not attract other dogs - or, we are always free to give a search around the lake if that's what you prefer." Was he taking his role of playing the 'nice, helpful stranger' a little too far? A part of him had a feeling that he might have, since others might not have been as enthusiastic about it as he. But what of it? Even if suspicion were to arise within the girl, it's not as if he was trying to deceive her - only to give a reason as to why he was staying near.
It was fine to play the game as long as he was occupying himself with something. Plus he couldn't exactly deny the fact that he was really somewhat curious as to how far the girl might be willing to go in order to have her dog back... Izumi's eyes suddenly seemed to have brightened when an idea came to him.
"Speaking of food... I also happen to be feeling a little hungry, but am without a yen on me. Is it at all possible to ask you to purchase something of edible nature for me, along with what you might buy for Mochi?" asked Izumi, turning around to face the young girl just as he stepped through the opening automatic doors. "It's only right to repay me for offering to help, ne?"[/style][STYLE=font-family: trebuchet ms; font-size: 9px; color: #606060; opacity: 0.9; text-align: right;]MADE BY AYU OF BACK TO NEVERLAND ( x)[/style] |
